Years ago there was a popular TV sitcom called “Cheers” about a popular bar and the people who frequented it. The theme song was called “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” and I think it illustrates one of the problems in today’s world, and even why some are reluctant to consider Christianity as a viable solution. What would the churches be like if they genuinely made people feel welcome and loved?
Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you’ve got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

While it sounds like a warm inviting place to be, a bar is NOT a solution. Escaping through alcohol or other forms of self-medication doesn’t help you solve your problems. It just postpones dealing with them. After it wears off, you still have the same problems on your shoulders. So it’s time to take charge of your life and get some help from people who understand where you’ve been and can help you change the course of your life for the good.
